Färgfabriken Projects

Färgfabriken operates as a cultural platform within the fields of art and architecture, and works with issues and challenges that affect society. Over the years we have seen that our activities have filled a gap, by providing positive contributions and helping generate new ideas and concepts.

Färgfabriken has over twenty years of experience working across sectors, with a method based on a diverse network and collaborations between different interests. The projects are initiated either by Färgfabriken or through collaborations and commissions. We cooperate with political scientists, artists, researchers, and many other actors in Sweden and abroad. In recent years we have collaborated with, and been given supported by, a variety of organisations and companies with different specialisations such as: Challenges Forum, Forum Syd, Vasakronan, the Swedish Institute, Sweco, The Swedish State Department and the Stockholm Municipality Planning Office. For more information about how we work and the diverse outcomes, see the examples below, or browse through our archive.

Färgfabriken, Virserum Konsthall, and Skellefteå Konsthall are launching a partnership that looks at how we perceive and communicate climate change from an emotional perspective. The transition to a climate-neutral future requires not only structural intervention but also an increasingly cohesive understanding of our climate where the way we feel is related to scientific facts. This will allow us to process our grief for what we’ve lost and channel our feelings of hope into action. We’re therefore creating a forum where young people, researchers, and artists can explore and relay their experiences and feelings in relation to climate and places.

New Urban Topologies

New Urban Topologies

The world is being urbanised at breakneck speed. Exploring our cities from different perspectives is a growing need and allows us to keep pace with this development. Especially relevant in this regard, is the linking of diverse questions of democracy, allied to economic and social segregation within cities’ physical structures. Färgfabriken’s international program, New Urban Topologies is an initiative that rose from such questions. For example, those that challenge the lack of methods for dialogue between the cities’ different voices and interests. Until today, New Urban Topologies operated in the Baltic States, Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Middle East, North Africa and South-East Asia.

INCOME

INCOME

What is a useful understanding of youth unemployment in Europe today? How can we create a sense of empowerment and hope in a time where there is talk of a “lost generation” and a constant stream of alarming statistics? The INCOME-project acts at the intersection of culture and economy through the co-working space format, in search for new ideas and opportunities within the concept co-working spaces. The methods include exchange of exchange of experiences and work practices. With an eclectic mix of members from around Europe, it is an opportunity to explore new ways of how to achieve greater job sustainability and opportunities across formats, borders and methods, and to investigate the role of cultural institutions and infrastructure within these issues. The starting point is a critical overview of where and why we are at this situation, including an analysis of how we talk about concepts like ”youth”, ”unemployment” or ”co-working” in a European context.

Expanded Societies

Expanded Societies

Expanded Societies focuses on the future of sustainable, smart, connected communities. A technology-driven society that takes care of the planet's resources in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner. Expanded Societies is a project that will examine how technology affects our lives, but it's more than a technology forum. The intention is to scan what is happening now and in the near future, from different perspectives, capturing current research and trends. The ambition is to create a lab with several partners from different fields to give an overview and comprehensive picture of the development, which is so fast that it is difficult to foresee. We want to create new opportunities and positive consequences for the future. With Expanded Societies we want to challenge, influence and create contexts, understanding and an exchange of ideas through round table discussions, debates, seminars and exciting exhibitions.
